Florida International University School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is one of the highest rated hospitality programs in the United States. With this in mind, MCHarry Associates has been commissioned to complete the dining room expansion which will serve as the Southern Wine & Spirits Teaching Restaurant.
MCHarry collaborated with Echeverria Design Group, in the design of this project. EDG is an award-winning South Florida interior design firm specializing in retail, hospitality & commercial projects.
The Restaurant is being completely funded by proceeds collected over the last years from the South Beach Wine & Food Festival; an annual event hosted by Southern Wine & Spirits and Florida International University.
The existing dining room will virtually triple its current size and offer patrons unique and expansive views of Miami’s Biscayne Bay. The 4200sf new dining room is organized around a two story atrium anchored with a circular wine cellar/tower on one end, and a bartending training area on the other. The atrium is flanked on either side with additional dining environment, portions of which accommodate a chef’s table for culinary demonstrations and special events. The glass enclosed wine tower reinforces the curved walls of the restaurant’s bayfront facade and defines the reception area which is entered through the Southern Wine and Spirits Beverage Center lobby.
In conjunction with this unique dining environment, FIU is also improving their teaching kitchen. The 2,500sf cutting edge kitchen facility will include primary and secondary food prep areas, pastry and pantry prep space, a Barista Station and ware wash room.
