Florida International University's School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is one of the highest rated hospitality and tourism programs in the United States. Each year, over 1400 undergraduate and graduate students from across the United States and around the world choose FIU for its career advantages in the international hotel, foodservice and tourism industries.

Recognizing the continuing success of the HTM programs and a need to maintain the schools competitive edge, the university has initiated a master planning analysis of their existing North Campus facility to explore possible refinements to the building layout; identify potential building expansion opportunities; to conceptualize improved building access, both pedestrian and vehicular; and to improve HTM identity as the building is viewed and approached from the west side of the central campus green / quadrangle.

With these interests in mind, the University engaged the services of MCHarry Associates to validate a heretofore piecemeal renovation program, and to formulate a cohesive plan that can be implemented in phases as funding becomes available.

Over the course of several months multiple meetings and workshops were convened with various stake holders including HTM administrators, university facilities staff, outside collaborators and donor representatives, and a select group of planners and designers. Through this process, a series of planning fundamentals emerged to better organize interior and exterior improvements over the long term. A key principle strives to reinforce the iconic Bay Vista relationship between the North Campus and Biscayne Bay.
