Miami International Airport (MIA) is the largest U.S. gateway for Latin America and the Caribbean and is one of the busiest international passenger and freight airports in the world. With the completion of the North and South Terminal expansion programs, the airport is now implementing a modernization program for their Central Terminal.
The MC Harry / Beauchamp Design/Build Team, in conjunction with train manufacturer Leitner Poma, was commissioned to design, construct, manufacture and install a state of the art replacement APM (automated people mover) System to improve international passenger arrival and departure movement to and from the Concourse E Satellite Terminal.
The APM operating system is a cable drawn technology moving dual shuttle trains along a quarter mile elevated guideway structure. Each train is comprised of three cars which are serviced from a level 2 maintenance bay located in the Satellite directly below the level 3 station platform.
